Preparations are gathering pace for the Extra Battle of the Giants tournament, with Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf confident fans will be treated to another exciting football spectacle when the competition kicks off next Friday.

The tournament will be staged at 4R Stadium, Govind Park, in Ba from September 4 to 6, with the country’s top districts battling for one of Fiji football’s most coveted titles.

Yusuf said most participating teams had used the two-week break to prepare intensively for the tournament, while Rewa had benefited from additional match exposure through its Extra Premier League commitments following its OFC Champions League campaign.

“Preparations are well underway for the Extra Battle of the Giants tournament in Ba next week. Majority of the participating teams have been on a two week break and they have been preparing intensively for the event. Rewa is still completing its Extra Premier League matches after competing in the OFC Champions League so they are getting some good game time as well.”

Yusuf is also expecting strong support from football fans, recalling the atmosphere generated during last year’s Inter-District Championship in Ba.

“We all saw how it was in Ba during the IDC last year and we expect the same atmosphere when the tournament kicks off next week Friday.”

The opening day on September 4 features Ba against Nadi at 7.30pm, Rewa takes on Lautoka at 5pm, Labasa faces Nasinu at 3pm and Suva meets Navua at 1pm.

Yusuf confirmed ticket sales have already begun.

“Ticket sales have begun. We have set reasonable ticket prices for the separate seating and fans can check our social media pages as how they can purchase their tickets.”
