MEMBERS of the Fiji Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation will be hosting a competition at the Suva Civic Centre in Suva next week.
After a lapse of one year and two cancellation of the Mr Fiji event last month and beginning of the year, federation vice-president Ratu Meli Navutovuto is calling on the business communities, the Government to look at the plight of the struggling sport.
“Financial wise, we have postponed the event twice — December 10 and January 7 this year — because we could not able to pay for the venue,” Navutovuto said.
“I can confirm now that we will be having the competition on the 28th of this month at 5pm.
With the much needed fund to run the competition, Navutovuto is thankful for some “Good Samaritans” who have come on board to help them.
The venue is costing the federation $1090 for three hours.
“I would like to personally thank Auto World Ltd, Mannat Investment (Lautoka), Kundan City Breadshop and Advantage Car Ltd for sponsoring the competition.
“It is really hard to find sponsors but we still have hope.
“We get sponsors in the past two proposed event but at the eleventh hour they pulled out.”
He said it was unfortunate for the federation officials not being able to get the grant from the Fiji Sports Commission.
“Should we have the grant, we wouldn’t have facing such problem right now,” he said.
“There is still hope that we will have people who will come to help us revive the sport in Fiji.
