THE discovery of a body of a man in a drain near Lovu in Lautoka have reignited concerns of safety among residents.
The man was found around 6.30am by neighbours who alerted police of the gruesome find.
Resident Hisham Janif said this was not the first time a body had been found along the busy highway.
“There’s been accidents and cars landing in this ditch and a number of bodies found too,” he said.
“It is a concern for us because this is a red zone area for crimes.”
Mr Janif said they were no stranger to people breaking into their property while encountering groups of people drinking around the area.
“Just last week, somebody broke into our home and stole a mobile phone. And directly opposite our house, there are people who come and drink and cause trouble. Our main issue is there are no streetlights along our road. People gather to drink in these dark spots.”
He said the body found near the home was the latest incident.
“I woke up around 6 or 6.30am when someone was calling from outside there was a body lying in the drain. We called police and they confirmed he was dead.”
Police confirmed the man was found motionless and conveyed to the Lautoka Hospital. Investigations continue.
