BALLANTINE Memorial School and Namosi Secondary School lead the medal tally at the end of the first day of the Coca-Cola Games Suva Zone 1 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.
Meki Maria of BMS came from behind to beat Raijieli Tale of Sacred Heart Secondary School to scoop the first gold of the competition in the girls division 3000 metres event.
Namosi Secondary School long-distance champ Mateo Matavura won the open boys 3000 metres beating DAV boys Savneel Sanal Chand and Isikeli Robulisoro of Wainimakutu Secondary School.
The Suva Zone 1 competition is also the biggest athletics zone meet in the country with 24 teams all the way from Namosi Secondary School to the corridors of Suva.
In the medal tally BMS leads with one gold, Sacred Heart with one silver and Namosi secondary school with one bronze.
In the boys division, Namosi Secondary School leads with one gold, DAV with one silver and Wainimakutu Secondary School with one bronze.
The final events will be held today at the ANZ Stadium.
Meanwhile, the 3000 metres finals for the Suva Zone 2 meet was also held yesterday whereby Nuku Secondary School leads the girls division with one gold, Waidina Secondary School follows at second and third place.
In the boys division Suva Grammar School takes the lead with one gold, Ratu Latianara Secondary School with one silver and Nuku Secondary School with one bronze.
The Suva Zone 1 meet will be held on Friday at the ANZ Stadium.
