LAUTOKA FC made a strong statement at Churchill Park yesterday, coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over AAAK/Galgary Nadi FC in round eight of the Extra Supermarket National Premier League.
The win marks a crucial turnaround for the Blues after suffering two consecutive defeats last week.
Nadi FC started the match on the front foot, applying early pressure and executing well-coordinated attacking moves.
Their solid defensive shape and quick transitions gave them the edge in the first half. The breakthrough came when Nilkash Prasad slotted home a well-taken goal, giving Nadi a 1-0 lead going into the break.
The second half saw a rejuvenated Lautoka FC emerge from the tunnel with a noticeable change in their attacking structure.
Under the guidance of newly appointed head coach Imdad Ali, who only joined the team two days prior, Lautoka played with urgency and purpose.
Despite missing a handful of scoring opportunities, they kept the pressure on Nadi’s defence.
Gulam Razool eventually capitalised on a defensive lapse, beating the Nadi backline to score the equaliser. Lautoka continued to dominate possession and territory, and their efforts were rewarded once again when Mohammed Shazil Ali scored the winning goal to complete the comeback.
Lautoka’s performance was a stark contrast to last week’s outings, showing greater cohesion and fighting spirit.
Razool and Ali proved to be the game-changers, making a significant impact in turning the match around. Nadi, meanwhile, paid the price for their lack of finishing in the second half despite a promising start.
Coach Imdad Ali believed in his players.
“I just started with the team two days ago. I’m expecting the team to improve, and with dedication from these boys, there’s a lot of hope for Lautoka,” Ali said.
Ali will now lead the side for the rest of the season as they look to climb the league standings.
