THE star studded Downtown Blues defeated Aims Rentals Navakai 2-0 in the Nadi Football Association local league competition at Prince Charles Park on Sunday.
Boasting players such as Rusiate Matarerega, Napolioni Qasevakatini, Shameem Buksh and William Valentine in the squad, Downtown sponsored by VR Builders/Mahijibhai proved too powerful for Navakai.
In other matches, Qeleloa Youth One beat Southern Cross 1-0, Namaka Football One had a default win over For Earth Bulaccino United, Malolo drew with ATMS Australia Eels 3-all, Blues Sports Club defeated Grand Melanesian Aries 2-0 and DCA Sports beat Gandhi Lionz 1-0.
Association president Navneeda Gounder said the focus was back on the local league after the early exit from the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants.
Gounder said district training would resume soon for the remaining matches in the Fiji Sun/Skipper Tuna National Football League.
Nadi is in contention for one of the two spots for next year’s Oceania Champions League.
The side is tied with Ba in second position with 22 points. However the Jetsetters have played an extra match.
Their remaining matches are against Lautoka and Labasa. Nadi would host Labasa on Sunday, September 7 at Prince Charles Park.
Suva leads the points table with 27 points.
