More than than 20 yachts have arrived into Fiji through Government’s Blue Lane initiative.

While speaking at the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Second Business Forum, Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said more yachts were expected to enter Fiji through Port Denarau.

“The Blue Lane is when we allow people who want to bring their yachts to Fiji,” he said.

“Their travelling time could be treated as a quarantine period.”

He said health officials, the military and the police had been monitoring the arrival of the foreign yachts.

“With the assistance of the RFMF and the Fijian Police Force, we are able to monitor them and once they have completed their quarantine period they can go to any of the resorts or restaurants and we can get some business going.

“So far we have had over 20 yachts that have come in and we expect a few more to come in.”

The attorney-general also confirmed ongoing discussions on the trans-Tasman bubble between Australia and New Zealand.

“We are constantly talking about this. I’ve spoken to the Australian Foreign Affairs Minister yesterday and with the Kiwis also.

“A lot of these discussions are quite delicate and there are a lot of issues that need to be resolved.”
