To mark World Red Cross Day, a “Blood Drive” will be held at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva today.
Director general Filipe Nainoca says this is important for us to recruit blood donors.
“Fiji Red Cross Society is working with the Blood Service Fiji. The blood drive will be held coming in groups. We are very thankful,” Nainoca said.
“We are proud to support our community, our country and be a part of the impact we can make together this World Red Cross Day,” he added..
“The Blood Bank at Colonial War Memorial Hospital uses at least 50 pints of blood per day, and this is used for accident, childbirth, cancer, leptospirosis, dengue, gynaecological, cardiac and open heart surgery cases.
National Blood Banks Assisted Manager Alumeci Naulivou said all blood collected will be used for the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) in Suva.
“Every unit what we donate can save up to three lives. Each recipient of that blood donation has his or her own story. He or she can be an accident or trauma victim, cancer patient, a mother giving birth, a premature baby. Our impact goes beyond that patient.”
