Members of the Bloc of 16 in Parliament can very well choose to form a political party, provided they follow the processes and procedures outlined in the Political Parties Act.
Independent member of Parliament Jone Usamate stated this during an interview on The Lens@177 yesterday.
“Anybody can form a political party, according to the Political Parties Act,” he said.
“(If) they go through the process, they can do that. Of course it can. There are ways and means to do it according to the requirements of the legislation.
“Of course, we (Bloc of 16) have committed to certain ways of disciplining ourselves and try to come up with common ways to look at things, things we value, and I think that will keep us focussed and united.”
When asked if the Bloc of 16 could possibly face another split, Mr Usamate said one never knew what would happen in the future.
“Who knows? It’s speculation but who knows? Today, the sun will rise at six, tomorrow it can be near eight. Who knows?
“You never know what happens in the future. But of course, when you have a group, you’re trying to keep it together as best as possible.
“For those of us that are, we have reconfirmed him (Inia Seruiratu) as our leader.”
