BINNU Singh Junior is ready to make his mark in professional boxing when he steps into the ring at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, on October 23.

With less than three weeks remaining before the Bluewater Boxing Promotion event, the young boxer is stepping up his preparations under the guidance of his older brother and coach, Junior Binnu Singh.

Speaking on behalf of his younger brother, Junior said Binnu Junior was training like a professional and was leaving no stone unturned ahead of his NZPBC Asia Pacific Featherweight Title fight against Zulfikar Zeeran Ali, son of the late Joy Ali.

“We are getting closer to October 23 and we are training like a pro. He should be doing whatever I have been doing and teaching him, and we are training together,” Junior said.

Although Binnu Junior will be making his professional boxing debut, his coach believes he is not new to the sport and has been gaining valuable experience through years of training.

“He might be new to professional boxing, but he is not new to boxing because he has been training with me for a long time,” he said.

Junior said the long period of preparation and training together had given him confidence that his younger brother would be ready for the challenge.

“It is going to be a good fight,” he said.

The highly anticipated bout will also carry added interest because Binnu Junior is facing Zulfikar, continuing a boxing connection between two families with strong names in Fiji’s boxing history.

Junior urged boxing fans, particularly those from Sigatoka and surrounding areas, to turn out in numbers for the event.

“I just want to tell all the friends there in Sigatoka and all those who are interested to come out in big numbers. It is going to be a good fight,” he said.

He believes fans will be treated to more than just the main bout, with a number of other contests expected to provide an entertaining night of boxing.

“Not only one bout, but all the bouts are also going to be good,” Junior said.
