Excitement is mounting as the Southern Billiards and Snooker Association of Fiji prepares to host a Billard Championship next month.

With the aim of promoting and growing the sport of Billard and Snooker in the country, Southern division president David Shiu Ratnam emphasised the importance of utilizing the talent present and steering youths away from negative influences.

“We want to build the sport of Billard and Snooker in the country, we can see a lot of talent around but to use it in a good way is something great,” said Ratnam.

Following the success of their 2nd National Ranking Snooker Tournament, the association is looking to expand their reach and popularity within Fiji.

“It was a success, now the aim goes big, we can see there are youths involving in drugs and other unnecessary things, we want them to come join the sport.”

Ratnam highlighted the benefits of the sport for mental and physical fitness.

“Billard and Snooker is a minor sport in the country, so we are trying to build and grow and get our sport popular. The Billard Championship is a great way we can get talented players to come and not just play but to win money for their families.”

Describing Billard and Snooker as a relaxing and enjoyable sport, Ratnam extended an invitation to interested individuals.
