The India-funded 100-bed super-specialty hospital project in Fiji is moving closer to construction with shortlisted companies set to arrive this month for site assessments as preparations continue for a groundbreaking early next year.
Indian High Commissioner to Fiji Suneet Mehta said the project was progressing well with the tendering process underway for what will be India’s largest grant assistance project in the Pacific region.
He said shortlisted companies would visit Fiji to assess the site, understand the requirements and engage with relevant stakeholders before submitting their bids.
“We expect the team of shortlisted companies to come over to Fiji to do a site visit, understand the lay of the land, interact with all the relevant stakeholders over here,” Mr Mehta said.
He said the visits would help companies prepare their bids, with the selection process expected to move forward soon to allow preparations for the groundbreaking.
“We will hopefully shortlist a bidder soon so that they can start preparations for the groundbreaking to be held by early next year.”
The hospital will be built in Nasinu on land already earmarked for the project and is expected to strengthen Fiji’s healthcare infrastructure.
Mr Mehta said the facility would bring expertise from India through doctors, nurses, equipment and medicines to provide world-class healthcare services in Fiji.
