He has been around the world and now he’s coming home – Ben Volavola has been signed by the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua.

The announcement was made shortly after 11am today by the club.

Volavola travels eastward from Australia, where he had been with the Queensland Reds in the 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby season, to join the Drua as it prepares to set sail once more in 2027.

In a statement, Volavola remarked joining the team meant an opportunity to “come back home with my family.”

“I’m also excited to see you all the fans, to play at home and mingle with you all after the games during the season,” Volavola said.

He returns with a decorated international rugby career spanning stints in the Flying Fijians with 48 caps, in Super Rugby with the NSW Waratahs with nine caps and scoring two tries, the Crusaders with seven caps and a try, 11 caps with the now-defunct Melbourne Rebels, seven with the Reds and in France for Top 14 Rugby with Racing 92 and England for the Leicester Tigers.

Fijian Drua’s general manager rugby, Baden Stephenson mentioned they were delighted to welcome him back home.

“Ben brings a wealth of experience from playing at the highest levels of the game,” Stephenson said.

He added his passion and commitment towards perfecting his craft would play a key role in being a vital mentor for the next generation of Drua and Flying Fijians players.
