PORT of Suva security officers and grid guards have strengthened their understanding of border security through an awareness session delivered by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) maritime and outer ports team.
The session focused on the critical role frontline security personnel play in protecting Fiji’s gateways and maintaining the integrity of the country’s borders.
The interactive training covered key areas of border security, including insider threat detection and prevention, supply chain security checks, customs legislative powers, customs control areas and access procedures.
The participants also examined different types of container seals and indicators of container tampering.
The session highlighted International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Standards, reinforcing the importance of security measures at the port.
“As the first line of defence at our ports, security personnel are essential in maintaining the integrity of Fiji’s borders,” FRCS said.
The training reflects FRCS’ emphasis on strengthening partnerships and building the capacity of stakeholders and partner agencies involved in border protection.
For port security officers and grid guards, greater awareness will support the early detection of risks and prevention of illicit activities, while contributing to the secure movement of people and goods.
FRCS said it remained committed to working with its partners to safeguard Fiji’s borders through vigilance, professionalism and a shared commitment to security.
