BEE-keeping is anticipated to be another step in sustainability for Fiji’s tourism landscape and a point of interests for tourists in the country.
Tourism Fiji chief executive officer Brent Hill made this statement in response to questions sent by this newspaper following IHGs’ Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa’s launch of their annual celebration of ‘World Bee Day’ on the 20th of this month.
The IHG resorts’ month long celebration will showcase honey-themed experience for guests featuring Natadola Bays’ gardens and coastlines, home to over one million honeybees and 21 active hives on their property.
He said the activity signified a step forward in the industry’s commitment to sustainability and is an interest for tourists.
“While I wouldn’t necessarily go so far as to say that bee-keeping will boost tourism, what it does show is another step forward in our sustainability program, and a real point of interest for tourists,” Mr Hill said.
He said bee-keeping is a guaranteed profitable sector that benefited the environment.
The honey themed programmes at the Intercontinental are expected to reinforce the global importance of bees and biodiversity in the face of growing climate concerns.
Travellers to Suva can enjoy a taste of InterContinental Fiji’s signature honey through a selection of culinary activities held at the Grand Pacific Hotel throughout the month.
