THE Barracuda Swim Club emerged victorious at the Fiji Short Course Age Groups Nationals competition, claiming an impressive total of 72 Gold, 53 Silver, and 35 Bronze medals over the weekend.
Tritons Swim Club secured second place, with Great White Sharks following closely behind in third.
Fiji Swimming president Lucy Erasito expressed gratitude to the coaches for their dedication to the athletes and to the parents for their unwavering support.
“The athletes have been training tirelessly over the past few months, diligently balancing their academics with their preparation. Their dedication has truly been remarkable,” said Erasito.
“This event saw the breaking of eight Age Group National records and six FIJI Open records.
“We recognise the outstanding accomplishments of Grace Khelan, Hansel McCaig, Nigel Simpson, and Samuel Yalimaiwai for their record-breaking performances at the National Championships.
“Grace Khelan excelled by breaking a total of four records: two national records in the 11-12 age category for the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, and two Fiji short course open records in the same events.
“Nigel Simpson shattered two Fiji Short Course Open records in the 8 and Under category for the 50m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke.
“Samuel Yalimaiwai set a new National record in the 17 & Over category for the 50m Breaststroke.
“Hansel McCaig achieved an incredible feat by breaking seven records in the 17 & Over age group, including five SC national records in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 100m individual Medley, and 50m backstroke, along with two Fiji open SC records in the 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley.”
Special recognition was extended to the officials for their invaluable contributions to the event’s success.
