VIRIMI Vakatawa and Tuidraki Samusamuvodre will feature for the Barbarians in their upcoming matches against South Africa and Wales.
The inclusions were announced yesterday by their club, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua.
Both players will join a distinguished list of Fijian ruggers who have donned the Barbarians iconic and unique jerseys.
Fijian Drua’s general manager rugby, Baden Stephenson, remarked the inclusions were a proud moment for the club.
“This is a tremendous achievement for both Tuidraki and Virimi and everyone at the Fijian Drua is proud of their selection,” Stephenson said in a statement.
“The Barbarians jersey is one of the most iconic in world rugby and earning the opportunity to wear it is recognition of their talent, hard work and performances on the field.”
For Samusamuvodre, this will mark his first stint in the renowned jersey and Stephenson mentioned how the Namotomoto, Nadi native continued to elevate in his progress on the field.
“Tuidraki continues to go from strength to strength and this maiden call-up is thoroughly deserved, while Virimi’s return to the Barbarians highlights the quality and experience he brings to our environment.”
“We wish them all the very best and look forward to seeing them showcase their talents on the international stage,” Stephenson said.
Since joining the Drua, Samusamuvodre has made 31 appearances and scored three tries, while earning two caps for the Flying Fijians.
Vakatawa returns to the ‘Baabas’ after two appearances in 2022 and 2024 and made his Drua debut this season, appearing in 10 matches and scoring a try.
The Barbarians, established in 1890, are a British-based invitational rugby club, where members distinguish themselves from the strips of their club colours on their socks.
As both players join the squad, the ‘Baa Bas’ will prepare for their first match against South Africa this Saturday before facing Wales on June 27.
