THE suspension of Solicitor-General Sharvada Sharma and the termination of Fiji Bureau of Statistics chief executive officer Kemueli Naiqama just a few days apart shows that Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has lost control of his own Government, says People’s Alliance Party leader Sitiveni Rabuka.
Mr Rabuka said the people deserved to see justice done without prejudice in these cases.
“The suspension of Fiji Solicitor-General Sharvada Sharma and other senior civil servants leaving under suspect and highly controversial circumstances within a week has all the elements of a government that prefers lies to truth, deception to integrity,” Mr Rabuka said.
“What has happened to the dictum that ‘nothing is to be done which creates even a suspicion that there has been an improper interference with the course of justice?’”
Mr Rabuka said it was clear that Government “had lost all semblance of morality and logic” and was on a path of “absolute carnage”.
He said the prime minister had “lost the plot” because over the past years he governed with poor advice.
Mr Rabuka said government kicking out loyal, hardworking and experienced senior state officials clearly showed Mr Bainimarama had lost control of his own government.
On September 15, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum dismissed Fiji Bureau of Statistics CEO Kemueli Naiqama from his position, claiming he had not complied with the Statistics Act.
Mr Sharma was suspended on September 20 for alleged “misbehaviour”.
Mr Sharma refused to comment on his suspension when approached at his home in Laucala Beach on September 21.
On September 21, the chairman of the Judicial Services Commission, Chief Justice Kamal Kumar, confirmed Mr Sharma was suspended because of a complaint filed with the commission against him.
Questions sent to Mr Sayed-Khaiyum and Mr Bainimarama remained unanswered when this edition went to press last night.
