Former Telecom Fiji Ltd and Amalgamated Telecom Holdings board member Sanjay Kaba, who is accused of obtaining a financial advantage of more than $700,000, has had his variation of bail granted.

Mr Kaba appeared before magistrate Charles Ratakele in the Suva Magistrate’s Court.

His lawyer, Wasu Pillay, sought a variation of bail for specific travel dates to be varied, given that the court has no available trial dates for this year.

Mr Kaba is alleged to have engaged in bidding for a tender through his company, Houng Lee Kaba Jacob Ltd (HLK Jacob) to provide project management services for TFL’s new office and data centre project.

As a result, he allegedly obtained $766,327.22 between June 2022 and July 2023.

It is further alleged he knew HLK Jacob Ltd was not eligible to receive this financial advantage as he had failed to declare his interest as a director of the company.

Meanwhile, prosecutor Nimisha Shankar’s request for more time to finalise the agreed facts was granted.

Mr Kaba’s bail was extended and the case adjourned to July 11.
