The bail application for former national squash rep Justin Ho was dismissed at the High Court in Lautoka last Friday.
Justice Aruna Aluthge said Ho was arrested from Taveuni and escorting an accused from there to the main island have been a time-consuming exercise for the police.
Justice Aluthge said in a case of this magnitude, the police has to carry out a lot of work within a time frame.
“Therefore the right violation of having kept in custody for more than 48 hours without getting charged should not be a reasonable justification to release the applicant on bail,” he said.
“The applicant has failed to satisfy the court that there are special circumstances to justify the release on bail, therefore the application for bail is dismissed.”
Louie Frank Penijamini Logaivau’s bail application was also dismissed because of similar grounds.
Ho was charged with unlawful importation of illicit drugs between November 1 and December 23 last year.
