Update: 11:53AM THE Biosecurity Authority of Fiji will not compromise the export standards of Fijian agro-produce at any level including at farm or the pack house, says executive chairman Xavier Riyaz Khan.
He made the comments in response to the Fiji Fresh Produce Exporters Association’s decision to boycott the export of fresh produce as of December 23.
Mr Khan strongly refuted claims made by the FFPEA about lack of consultation on export issues saying that BAF has always worked closely with all stakeholders to facilitate Fijian agro-exports.
“We have been working together with the FFPEA in the best interest of all exporters and Fiji,” he said.
“Nothing can be resolved through speculation through the media but it can only be resolved by all of us working together as a team.”
Association president Rizwan Khan made claims that new fees and charges imposed by BAF, along with new stringent inspection methods were making it difficult for exporters to conduct business in a profitable manner.
The association represents 19 exporters and 250 farmers.
