THE Fiji Badminton team will be leaving no stones unturned in their quest to improve Fiji’s ranking in their first ever Sudirman Cup appearance.
According to Fiji rep Ahmad Ali, the event will begin on May 21 at the Gold Coast, Australia.
He said the Surdiman Cup was a world ranking event with 28 countries competing divided into four divisions.
“This will be the first time for Fiji to be a part of this event which is very exciting for us to be a part of,” Ali said.
Members of the Fiji Badminton team are Jason Low (coach), Andra Whiteside, Karyn Gibson, Danielle Whiteside, Chloe Kumar, Liam Fong, Martin Feussner, Steven Low and Ahmad Ali.
He said preparations had been going well and members of the team were psyched for the upcoming tournament.
“The team is actually quite good and everybody is ready in making the trip, which is part of our journey in achieving our goal in competing in the Commonwealth games next year.
He said they were doing quite well in terms of preparation and were working on a few areas before they left Fiji on Friday, May 19.
“Badminton is slowly trying to make a come-back in the last couple of years. And it’s good to get funding from the Fiji National Sports Commission in order to be able to make this trip.
The Fiji contingent consists of eight players and a coach.
