Stepping out of his comfort zone was a difficult choice for Sheik Ryhaan Babu, but he was willing to take that risk to pursue his passion in culinary arts.
The 18-year-old Sigatoka native was among the 60 students who graduated from the Fiji National University’s National Training and Productivity Centre Department of Hospitality and Tourism and Travel at the Namaka Campus in Nadi on Wednesday.
Mr Babu graduated with a Certificate of Attainment in Baking and Patisserie Skills.
“I feel really special since all my family are here, my mum and dad are also proud and my friends are also here,” he said.
“They also helped me in my lowest time and I appreciate them.”
While his first option after this is to look for formal employment, Mr Babu said he also planned to by pursuing a diploma.
His flair for cooking began right in his kitchen when he would observe his mother cooking the family’s meals.
“I chose this because it was my passion and I always wanted to bake and cook; my mum always taught me how to cook because I love to eat.”
Mr Babu urged other young men his age to take up similar courses.
“I just want to thank my friends and family and I dedicate this achievement to them.”
