FIJI Airways 7s team coach Gareth Baber said Australia will be a tough team to play especially as they are in the same pooled in the 2017,2018 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai next month.
Baber said obviously the first game was always a tough one.
“Russia has been preparing well playing in the Europe tournaments and I had a good look at them and I know what they will bring and we need to stick on what we need to do to create momentum,” he said.
“Wales will be tough since they have been playing in the Europe recently and they will want to start off well and obviously the game against Australia will be a physical battle which Australia wants and what we going to do is to make sure we play the rugby that Fiji play.
“We’ve beaten them last year and there were a numbers of times that we’ve beaten them so it is just reminding the players that topping that pool will progress us to a good quarterfinal.”
He added that he was impressed with the player’s performance bringing in Drua players John Stewart and Eroni Sau when they returned from their NRC game.
“There are number of players who have been training with us in the off-season and they have done well.
“Some young players have progressed well and I want to keep them progressing and I want them to put pressure on this set of group.
“I have a set of players who I looked at their experience level, quality, physicality and how they play individual and there are players who are carrying injury like our NRC players.
“We’re in good position the players are fit and healthy looking forward for the next weekend.
