Semi-finalist for the first time in the Fiji Secondary School Rugby League Vodafone Trophy competition, Ba Methodist High School is banking on their belief to advance into the finals of the U-17 competition.

Today, at the Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori, the Ba Methodist Saints face-off against Ba Pro Dragons in the U-17 grade.

“It is a big achievement for the school to make it to the semi-finals in any grade for the very first time,” said Principal Azam Ali.

He said the school has previously only made it to the quarterfinals in the competition.

“Last week, when we defeated Nasinu Panthers in the quarter-finals, we achieved something special. We know that Ba Pro is a very good side- favourites into the match as they are laced with top quality players but we give our all and hopefully create an upset.”

Ali added that the Western weather in the quarterfinals favoured them and was hoping for the same in Nausori.

“I am not sure whether it will be raining in Nausori but with good weather, we should be able to give a good match to Ba Pro Dragons. The match against Ba Pro is no less than a final for us and we are ready to face them.”

He said the training began at the start of the school year, however, juggling between athletics and rugby league competition was a challenge.
