THE Ba Football Association has strongly condemned the alleged use of abusive and offensive language directed at its president, Praneel Dayal, on social media following Ba FC’s 4-1 victory over Lautoka FC on Sunday.
The association said the incident involved alleged abusive and vulgar comments posted on TikTok by a market vendor.
While acknowledging the passion and rivalry that comes with football, the Ba FA said there was a clear line between spirited support and personal abuse.
“Football is built on passion and rivalry, but there is a clear line between spirited support and personal abuse,” the association said in a statement.
The association said supporters have the right to express their views, but stressed that abusive, threatening or offensive conduct had no place in football or the wider community.
The matter has been referred to the relevant authorities for assessment.
“As the matter is now being dealt with through the appropriate channels, we will not make any further comment on the details at this time,” the association said.
Ba FA has also called on football supporters to uphold the values of respect, sportsmanship and fair play, particularly during intense rivalries.
The association said rivalries should remain on the football field and urged supporters to contribute towards creating a positive and safe environment for players, officials, administrators and fans.
The Ba FA said it remains committed to promoting football in a manner that reflects dignity, unity and mutual respect.
