The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side recorded their second loss of day two in the Fiji Airways International 7s tournament after they were convincingly beaten by Aussie Green 34-12 at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

Australia looked confident with ball in hand from the first whistle as Maddison Levi went over the line for the full seven points. Vani Buleki made a fine break as she dotted the ball under the sticks.

Reapi Ulunisau’s conversion levelled the scores before Madison Aghby scored another try for the Aussie Green.

The Fijiana girls committed a number of handling mistakes as Don Du Toit pounced on the opportunity for a third try for the Australians.

Ana Maria Naimasi, who worked tirelessly throughout the first-half scored a try just before half-time, after a good passage of play from the team as they trailed the Australian’s 12-19.

In the second spell, it was all Australia who added three tries.

Bienne Terita scored a run-away try after a lapse of concentration and poor defence from the Fijiana side.

The match referee flashed a Fijiana player with a yellow card following a number of infringements.

With an extra player, Maddison Levi got her brace.

Aussie Green continued to pile pressure as Du Toit’s second try sealed off the game for them.

Fijiana 7s assistant coach Timoci Volavola said the girls lost focus in the game which resulted in their loss.

“In 7s, the players must be 100 per cent focused all the time, and we also committed a lot of handling errors which were contributing factors in our loss.

“We need to improve on our core skills. It is also the first time for a lot of them to be competing against the top stars of the women’s 7s game and I am sure there is more to come,” said Volavola.
