Former Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association general secretary Filimoni Vuli Waqa has passed away.
Oceania Athletics confirmed his demise on its official Facebook page. According to the post, the message was relayed to Oceania Athletics by his son.
“Today (yesterday) is a truly sad day for Athletics in Fiji, Oceania and World Athletics, as we say goodbye to a true son, servant, leader and mentor in Filimoni Vuli Waqa, President Athletics Fiji, Oceania Life Member and World Athletics Plaque of Merit Award recipient,” Oceania Athletics stated.
He passed away at 3am yesterday as he was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
“Vuli was a great friend and mentor to many. We will miss his wise counsel and friendship. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Mr Waqa’s health had not been in great shape lately as he missed this year’s Fiji Finals due to his illness.
