The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) welcomes the introduction of Starlink satellite-based internet services, recognising the substantial positive impact it holds for the national tourism industry.

As the news of Starlink’s presence unfolds, FHTA emphasises the potential connectivity benefits for remote areas, where many of their members operate tourism businesses.

FHTA chief executive officer Fantasha Lockington said, “Any enhancement to our current connectivity is welcomed, as communication is a key priority for an industry that conducts the bulk of its back-end business functions online and where improved communication inevitably enhances the overall visitor experience.”

Mrs Lockington also stated that the improved connectivity also opens up opportunities for potential investors to consider underdeveloped remote areas for investment as connectivity improves.

“This development is seen as a complementary opportunity that can positively influence the overall telecommunications ecosystem, contributing to the strengthening of the tourism industry.

“The association looks forward to collaborating closely with its members to maximise the potential benefits of Starlink’s operations for the tourism sector.”

Starlink, a visionary project by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, brings forth new possibilities and advancements to Fiji’s telecommunications landscape, in turn enhancing the tourism experience for both residents and visitors.
