Fiji Bitter Serua 7s top seeds Army Green will face Police White in the first elimination at Thomson Park this morning.

The men from Delainabua topped their pool after beating Veivatuloa and Vatoa by the same 24-0 and Nasonini Brothers 15-0 on day one of competition.

Other top team through to the elimination rounds are Police Blue, Navy, Wardens, Tabadamu, Uluinakau and Ratu Filise.

A total of 16 teams have made it to the elimination rounds, which kick off at 8am today, with the winners marching on to the cup quarter-finals.

Tournament coordinator and Serua Rugby Union representative Ilimo Vudiniabola said day one was a success even though the ground conditions were tough.

“We are very happy that we have finally been able to have the competition even though the grounds were quite muddy,” he said.

“As expected, young and developing teams like Nakavu, Rio Brothers, and Bula Brothers added colour to the tournament as they gave giant teams tough competition.

“We were impressed with the performance of some of these young teams who stood up to strong teams like Police and Navy.”

He thanked fans and supporters for turning up to the grounds despite the rainy weather.

“We hope for the same turnout tomorrow and we can’t wait for the cup and shield finals. We would like to thank all our sponsors for making this event possible.”
