Army officer in custody for allegedly assaulting Police officer

A player of the Army Sukuna Bowl team is in police custody for allegedly assaulting an on duty police officer and escaping from a police station.

The military officer, who is based in Suva, allegedly assaulted the police officer on Sunday morning in Namaka.

Hours later, he escaped from the Namaka Police Station.

Assistant Commissioner of Police operations (ACP) Livai Driu confirmed the incident.

“The suspect had allegedly assaulted a police officer resulting in his arrest and also escaping from lawful custody but was arrested shortly after,” he said.

“He is in custody and currently being processed for court tomorrow (today).”
