Furival is MBHS dux MARIST Brothers High school dux has dedicated his achievement to his parents for believing in him.

On Friday, December 4, the 18-year-old who hails from Chuchu Village in Rotuma scooped the English and the science subject awards during their prize giving.

Furivai, who aspires to be a neurosurgeon, said he had all the support from his parents and form mates that drove him to excel in school.

“I really thank my parents, they have been very encouraging from the very beginning, always being there to support me, my teachers who have pushed me to my limits especially my chemistry teacher,” he said.

“For me, it was a tough journey because my grandmother has passed away when I was sitting for my annual exam.

It was really hard for me, but I know she will be happy knowing that I have done her proud.” He said he wants to be a doctor specialising in neurosurgery.

“Being the eldest of five siblings it’s my duty to set a good example for my younger siblings and provide a platform or pathway for them to also work hard and achieve something for themselves.

“Marist has taught me a lot, teaching me the values of life not just to excel academically but be a person who can help people.

“The bond we have with my classmates my teachers is unforgettable.

“They are the ones who have been a part of my struggle and success so I dedicate this to all of them.”

In Year 13 Gregory Smith took out the principal award.

He was also the top science student and recorded the highest aggregate in Year 13.
