THIRTY-year-old Saverio Morris has given her family a reason to be proud — she’s the first in the family to become a lawyer.
Ms Morris, who was raised by a single mother, said it was a fulfilling moment giving her affirmation before Chief Justice Salesi Temo at the High Court in Suva this week.
She said it was her mother’s dream to become a lawyer too, but she could not complete her studies due to personal reasons.
So, Ms Morris said, her admission was the first step to achieving her goal, and her mother’s.
“Childhood growing up was hard, especially growing up with a single mum who has been my rock since the beginning of time.
“And I’m so blessed to have her in my life, my twin sister and my brother who I love so much.
“I know my mother is very proud of me, she’s the main reason why I made it through law with the Lord Almighty.
“My mother not being able to pursue her dreams breaks my heart, but she can still do it now, but I am grateful for her being with me throughout my journey.”
Ms Morris hopes to become an ambassador for Fiji in the future.
“In five years, I hope I am still in practice, but in 10 years time to become an ambassador,” she said.
Ms Morris was one of 15 law graduates admitted to bar on Wednesday.
