The owner of one of Nadi’s iconic eateries says the second wave of COVID-19 has brought to an end a business that had survived numerous climatic and political challenges for decades.
“All my dreams have been shattered,” said Tata’s Restaurant owner Dinesh Pillay.
He said he had no other choice but to close down when the lockdown was enforced last month because business, which was already bad prior to COVID-19, declined even further when the second wave of the virus hit Fiji.
“I invested a lot and relocated my restaurant last November in the hope of doing good business but things are so bad now, I am in debt and everything I had spent is gone.”
Mr Pillay said he used to have three staff, however, with the ongoing drop in business he had to let them go.
“My wife and I have been managing since February this year but this lockdown has forced me to close it down completely.”
Mr Pillay said he had invested close to $60,000 to relocate from the town end of the Nadi back road to Motorex Business Center last year.
