The five air traffic controllers who graduated from a 12-week intensive aerodrome control course have been reminded that safety is always paramount.

Fiji Airports Chief Executive Officer Mesake Nawari told the graduates that such training was paramount to the well-being of Fiji Airports as it helped in ongoing capacity building and competency development of its air traffic management team (ATM).

“Air Traffic Controllers undergo intensive instruction to handle complex airspace scenarios, manage air traffic flow and ensure the seamless and safe movement of flights,” Mr Nawari said.

“Your 12-week training has equipped you with this knowledge on safely handling such a massive air space and you have showcased exceptional competence through your training.

“Safety is paramount to aviation. We need to ensure that air traffic management remains safe, even as our skies become more crowded and operations become increasingly complex with new concepts of operations and new airspace users such as unmanned aircraft.”
