ARTIFICIAL Intelligence (AI) will dominate discussions at the Pacific Fiber Conference 2026, which begins at the Sheraton Denarau this Thursday with about 300 delegates expected to attend and a diverse range of speakers from the telecommunications industry both in the Pacific and internationally.
Touted as the Pacific region’s premier cable event, this is the conference’s second year, with its selection of speakers expected to deliver on a wide range of topics around AI and its transformational impact on businesses, economies and society.
“With the huge interest from last year, we have discussed as a committee together with the Fibre Network Council and with PITA (Pacific Islands Telecommunications Authority) that this year we will bring it to another level,” Telecom Fiji Ltd’s chief technical officer Mesake Tuinabua said in an interview with The Fiji Times yesterday.
“So that means bringing the number of different type of speakers that we have and also those partners in technologies, vendors and investment partners and all the potential participants that can be able to contribute more effectively to this year’s event.
“And this year will be special because everyone is talking about AI.
“But in our theme for this year, laying that foundation is important for AI. And that’s why we are not just talking about just the digital infrastructure, which is the foundation for AI, we are also talking about some practical case studies on how AI has powered the digital services, how it has evolved organisations to be able to assist their operations, improve their service delivery and also improve their productivity.”
Mr Tuinabua said there have been a lot of interest in the conference and the over 300 delegates expected will be representative of not just the cable business but all the other moving parts of the digital infrastructure.
“We have the policy makers, the regulators, also the partners, investors, the solution partners, the service integrator, those who manufacture different components of this infrastructure.
“And also, we’ll have those digital platforms like Toppan and NiuPay, which is providing SubQ state of AI and how it’s digitised, the eGovs, eComs, and also the operations as well, planning and design, and maintenance, how AI is powered and improved, how we maintain and operate services.”
Day One of the conference will focus on “Global Perspective & International Best Practices” while Day Two will home in on “Turning Global Lessons into Pacific Action”, according to the event’s program.
The two-day conference is hosted by Telecom Fiji Ltd, supported by PITA and organised by the Fiber Network Council Asia Pacific.
