Agriculture has emerged as the hardest-hit sector following Cyclone Vaianu, with preliminary damage estimates reaching about $30million.
Rural and Maritime Development Minister Mosese Bulitavu said the final assessment report was still being compiled.
“The final report has not yet reached my office, but preliminary estimates are around $30million,” he said.
Mr Bulitavu said initial findings indicated widespread damage to food crops and plantations, which typically bore the brunt of severe weather events.
“Agriculture is always the most affected sector, especially food sources and plantations.”
He said assessment teams had only recently returned from the field after completing initial surveys.
“The assessments involvess multiple stakeholders, including those engaged in relief distribution, to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of the damage.”
Meanwhile, he assured the public that government warehouses remained in good condition and were adequately managed to support emergency response efforts.
He said equipment and boats stored in these facilities were regularly serviced and maintained to ensure readiness during disasters.
