Aesthetic crafts expo

DURING the final day of the craft expo at the Suva foreshore yesterday, local talent seemed to exuberate from each of the stalls displaying some of Fiji’s most aesthetic crafts from the Central Division.

Vice-president of the Vakabalea Rural Women’s Club from Namosi, Serua, Ilisapeci Cokanasiga explained how the expo provided the women with an opportunity to display their talent on a larger scale.

“It helps us in our family finance, and in our groups and with our rural communities also. It’s very hard to help the family so we have to come and sell products from our village,” Ms Cokanasiga explained.

She said their club was contacted by the rural women’s office from their sector to join in the craft expo and take advantage of the opportunity to expose their handmade crafts.

According to Ms Cokanasiga, 20 per cent of what they sold goes back to the club and the rest to the individual families to help fund transport.

“The expo is very good. What the minister did, it really helps us.

“I just want to thank her. She thinks of us, especially us rural women, financially and also provides us with a platform to show our talents.”

The Vakabalea Rural Women’s Club have qualified for the National Women’s Craft Expo in October mous virgin oil.
