ADI Cakobau School is the new champion of the Eastern Zone U18 Raluve Trophy after a hard-fought victory over Dawasamu Secondary School, defeating them 18-10 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.
Despite Dawasamu being the favorites, Adi Cakobau’s girls from Waimanu proved their strength and determination on the field.
The match was intense, with the first try scored by Seini Kainavatu of Dawasamu, Adi Cakobau’s Domitila Rokocewa responded with a score, but missed conversions left the halftime score tied at 5-5.
In the second half, Rosalia Sologa of Dawasamu broke through three defenders to score but missed the conversion.
Seini Yaco then turned the game around by scoring two tries in the final minutes, with Ilisapeci Sagacora converting to secure the 18-10 win in the final. Team manager Paulini Veremalua expressed her excitement at the girls’ performance, stating they had achieved their goal.
“This victory was a proud moment for the hardworking girls, who deserved the win,” said Veremalua.
“Looking ahead, there are areas to improve on, but we are determined to come back stronger in the upcoming nationals.”
Meanwhile, ACS also took home the U16 Raluve title after thrashing Lelean Memorial School 27-0.
