A revised mutual recognition agreement (MRA) has been signed between the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) and IPA Group, one of the world’s largest accounting organisations, in an effort to promote the interests of their respective members and the accounting profession globally.
In a statement issued yesterday, the two parties said the MRA will provide a membership pathway across accounting technician, associate/intermediate, chartered, membership and fellow membership categories.
It will also enable both the IPA Group and FICA to promote the transfer of skills and knowledge, along with general support around professional development, migration, and ethics.
“This revised MRA seeks to continue the strong bond between the two organisations initially formalised in February 2022 through reciprocal recognition, membership and education pathways, providing opportunities for members in the region, and more broadly through the IPA Group globally,” IPA Group chief executive officer, Andrew Conway, said.
“It reflects changes made to the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants Act (2021), which has provided for a broader membership pathway that now includes accounting technicians.”
FICA, established in 1971, is the only professional accounting organisation in Fiji with about 1000 members.
The Revised Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) Act 2021 was passed by Parliament in December 2021 and came into effect on June 24, 2022 along with the revised FICA Regulations (formerly known as Rules).
“The FICA is delighted to enter into this updated MRA with the IPA Group,” said FICA’s immediate past president Rajeshwar Singh.
“It is clear from our initial MRA and work we have done together in the past two years that the FICA and IPA Group are well aligned to ensure that our members continue to grow and develop.”
