Abu Jihad dead in Syria

AN Australian known as Abu Jihad Al-Australi has been killed while fighting in Syria, according to social media reports.

A photo posted on Twitter allegedly shows the dead body of a man who resembles former Melbourne university student Suhan Rahman.

The 23-year-old is thought to have been in the war-torn nation for seven months.

The ABC has not been able to independently verify the reports of his death.

It is not clear if Rahman joined Islamic State (IS) fighters, but photos on social media under the account Suhan Abdul Rahman appeared to show him in Syria.

His Facebook account contained messages of support for the Charlie Hebdo gunmen and threats to “spill blood” in Australia.

Rahman was previously the subject of an investigation by police into a threat made against an Australian newspaper.
