Fiji Rugby Union interim chair man Peter Mazey praised Team Fiji men’s 7s for their recent silver medal achievement, highlighting that it signifies more than just a medal, it symbolises national pride and collective effort.
Addressing the team at their welcome ceremony on Sunday, Mazey commended the players for their outstanding achievement, noting that it not only showcases their hard work and commitment but also captures the essence of Fiji’s spirit.
“You once again have done it. This is an incredible moment for us all, not just as fans but as a united family celebrating your extraordinary achievement that has brought immense pride to Fiji,” said
Mazey. He expressed his gratitude to the athletes, recognising that they have made history by claiming the silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“To all our athletes it is with immense joy and admiration that I would say thank you, you have made history, by winning the silver medal and the 2024 Olympic games in Paris.
“It was not only a testament but a shining example of the spirit of Fiji, and the faith we all had in you, from the moment you stood at the grand stage in Paris it was something special for us, you showcased the pride for Fijian rugby.
“Also, not only have you represented the nation on the world stage, but you have also inspired the young athletes to dream of wearing that iconic jersey.”
Mazey extended his appreciation to the coaching staff, management, and medical team for their unwavering support and dedication, emphasising that their commitment has been truly inspiring and worthy of pride.
Fiji’s 7s team has a storied history of success, which includes two Olympic gold medals from the Rio and Tokyo Games. This year, they added to their accolades by clinching the silver medal.
