It will be a numbers game, long time House of Representatives secretary Edward Blakelock said of the possible scenario of Fiji having a government of national unity.
Mr Blakelock said the formation of such a government would depend on the number of FijiFirst opposition members should they decide to join the Prime Minister’s party.
“That’s an interesting scenario,” Mr Blakelock said.
“I don’t know how things will play out but he (PM) has to work out with the members in the house, how many of them will actually join his (PM’s) party or some of them will make their own party or some of them will be becoming independent.
“It all depends on the numbers.”
He said things will become more clearer where the party stands once the deregistration takes place.
“This is just a proposal at the moment.
“As I understand it, the FijiFirst party has to be deregistered first and that won’t take place until the 28th of this month according to SoE.
“So, all his proposal will then come into force.
“Once the deregistration takes place then things become more clearer in terms of where the party stands and how they play out in their own caucus.
“We have to look at what it says in the deregistration of the Political Parties Act.
“I think it says in section 20 (2) that the members of a deregistered party can become independent or join another political party.
“That’s what it says in the Act.
“The possibility of them becoming independent or joining another political party is there only until deregistration takes place.”
