LAUTOKA
Known as the Sugar City, Lautoka’s main industry is sugar production, as the town is surrounded by fields full of tall sugar cane plants. Lautoka Mill, which was built in 1903, is a huge source of local employment and is the biggest sugar mill in the southern hemisphere. Lautoka’s history is mainly built around this mill, where you can still watch sugar trains chugging through the city in the latter months of the year. With a population of around 52,000, Lautoka is perched on the west coast of Viti Levu about 35 minutes from Nadi and is the second largest city after Suva. Its wide streets are decorated in foliage and have the ever-visible Evans Mountain Range as a backdrop.

LABASA
Labasa town is the main town in Vanua Levu with a population of over 27, 800. Located in Macuata, in the north of Fiji’s second-largest island, Vanua Levu, the town sits on a delta formed by three rivers – the Wailevu, the Labasa (after the town is named), and the Qawa river. Labasa is predominantly an Indo-Fijian town, which was built on the sugar trade and is still much alive with the industry. It is the hub for northern Vanua Levu and is surrounded by mostly farming areas which contribute to the town. Labasa has the biggest hospital on the island which was recently renovated. Fijian footballer Roy Krishna is from Labsa where the local soccer team is known as the ‘Babasiga Lions’

Sigatoka
Sigatoka is located at the mouth of the Sigatoka River, for which it is named, some 64 kilometres from Nadi. With a population of around 10,000 people it is the principal urban centre for the province of Nadroga-Navosa. An ornate temple, open to public and built by Hare Krishna devotees, dominates the Sigatoka skyline. Major tourist attractions include the Sigatoka Sand Dunes near Kulukulu Village, two kilometres northwest of Sigatoka; and the Kula Eco Park, with some 500 birds of 100 species from many tropical countries. The town is also the principal centre for Fiji’s coastal tourism belt—the Coral Coast—which has many of the country’s leading hotels and resorts.

Ba
Ba in Viti Levu is situated along the Kings Rd, 63km / 40 miles north of Nadi with a population of around 14,000. Named after the Ba River, Ba is the central hub for the Ba Province, which is the largest province of Fiji. The district celebrates this fact and its lively social history with the Ba Civic Museum. The majority of the population are Indo-Fijian, with the main industry being agriculture and the sugar cane industry in particular.
