A leading university

THE University of Fiji’s transition into one of the country’s leading universities was evident when 68 students from different schools graduated earlier this month — 20 of them from the Umanand Prasad School of Medicine.

UniFiji Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Kevin Coll said the university would continue to grow and receive national and international recognition for the quality of its programs and graduates.

“We are working closely with other providers of higher education in Fiji and the Fiji Higher Education Commission as we strive to help the Government of Fiji fulfil its dream of accessible higher education for all,” he said.

“It is marvellous that the Government in Fiji, unlike many others elsewhere has backed up the rhetoric with the requisite resourcing and we at the University of Fiji are grateful to Government and the Fiji Higher Education Commission for financial support and the positive relationship we have built.

“Due to the support of Government and the generous sponsorship of the friends of the University of Fiji, particularly the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, I am pleased to announce that the University is continuing to grow and expand its offering of new programs.” Professor Coll said new programs would be introduced in the area of law, education, business and accounting.

“The growth at the University also has allowed us to invest in an expansion of our Suva campus to cope with increased demand at Suva, particular in Law and Education.

“I am pleased to announce that construction has already begun and we are looking forward to completion of the first phase of this exciting development by the beginning of the Semester I in 2015, and the second phase in time for Semester II.
