Fiji wants Australians and New Zealanders not to undergo quarantine when they return home from a holiday here under the Bula Bubble.
“That’s really the issue we are trying to tackle at this point in time,” said Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as he provided an update on the Bula Bubble at the Fiji College of General Practitioners Seminar on Saturday.
“If a tourist comes from a particular country to Fiji and using Bula Bubble, they get their tests done and when they get to Nadi, they get into a dedicated transportation, so the bubble starts there, what we call the VIP lanes,” he said.
“They will come to only designated resorts and they will stay there. All the staff that work at that resort will need to stay there on premises, they cannot come in and out and they have to serve 14 days.”
He said tourists would use the same path to go home.
“Because we are COVID contained and because we have the VIP lanes and the Bula Bubble, upon my return, I should not go into quarantine.
“Because no Australian or Kiwi will want to come for one week’s holiday in Fiji and will go and have to quarantine for 14 days in Australia,” he said.
Fiji also made a similar request to the European Union during their high level political meeting.
