IN an effort to deal with the anomalies faced by the fisheries sector, Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, announced a $3.2 million funding for seven local tuna fishing companies yesterday.
After a really rigorous and prolonged assessment, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the funds would be disbursed to the seven companies.
He said it was really important to understand that fishing companies had a lot of competition.
“It is very critical for people to understand, our fishing companies face a lot of tough competition, as you know the fishing industry is actually getting very restrictive in a sense because obviously fish stocks are no longer as much as it used to be,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.
