Attorney General and Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is responsible for “drowning” the economy and “should be thrown out of the boat, just like Jonah in the Bible”.
This, according to Opposition parliamentarian Niko Nawaikula. He made the comment while speaking in Parliament yesterday during the debate on the 2020-2021 Appropriation Bill.
“He (Mr Sayed-Khaiyum) is not a qualified economist,” said Mr Nawaikula.
“He thinks he knows everything.”
Mr Nawaikula said the responses from government MPs on the budget were “garbage” because the A-G had “messed up the budget”.
“The budget was bogus and dishonest, we should be honest.”
He said Mr Sayed-Khaiyum continued to mislead people in Fiji and around the world.
“Where is the boom? There is only doom.”
Mr Nawaikula said the Economy Minister was responsible for the dismal state of the economy.
“Accept the responsibility of your economic mismanagement. Why are you jumping up and down, there is nothing to celebrate in this budget.”
