A dream come true | Cuvu speedster makes Fiji U20 rugby squad

MARIST Brothers High School student Ratu Aporosa Lalabalavu’s dream of wearing the white jersey has become a reality as he has been selected to be a part of the SportsWorld Fiji under-20 team for the upcoming Oceania U20 Rugby Championship.

The talented speedster, hailing from Cuvu in Nadroga, impressed during the Fiji Finals where he secured gold medals for his school during his events.

Lalabalavu expressed his gratitude for this opportunity, stating that he had always envisioned representing his country in rugby.

Being called to join the training squad is a major step towards achieving his dream, and he is eager to showcase his skills on the national stage.

“This is a great opportunity for me to show my talent for my country, it has been a tough ride for me but i thank god for always protecting me through my journey,” said Lalabalavu.

Joining the U20 team preparing for the Oceania Championship is a dream come true for him, and he is committed to giving his best effort, not wanting to disappoint the coaches who have shown faith in him.

Lalabalavu recently had his first training session with the national side before departing with the MBHS U18 team on their tour of New Zealand.

National U20 head coach Senirusi Seruvakula highlighted Lalabalavu’s talent and potential, emphasising the importance of developing young players for future senior roles within the Flying Fijians team.

Lalabalavu and two other secondary school players have been brought in as part of this strategic development plan aimed at nurturing leadership and exceptional skills among Fiji’s emerging rugby talents.

“Abo (Lalabalavu) has skills we have been searching for and is displaying depth in the game,” said Seruvakula.

“He is not the only one we’ve brought in; there is three of them from the secondary schools’ teams and they are part of the plan to develop leaders and exceptional players preparing them for senior roles like the Flying Fijians.”

The Oceania U20 Rugby Championship, scheduled from May 26 to June 11 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
