THE Nasinu Town Council is urging members of the community to demonstrate civic pride by properly disposing of waste and participating in regular community clean-up events.

Despite the rainy weather on Saturday, council staff members and community volunteers continued with their cleanup efforts in Nadawa.

Earlier in the week, the campaign was held at the Fiji National University’s Narere and Valelevu campuses.

Special Administrator Salesh Kumar also participated in the clean-up efforts and emphasized that educational institutions should be beacons of pride for our community.

“These efforts show what we can accomplish when we work together, but we need everyone’s commitment to stop littering and take responsibility for our shared spaces every day,” Mr Kumar said.

He said small daily actions by individuals would transform Nasinu into one of Fiji’s cleanest municipalities.

“A clean Nasinu begins with each one of us making conscious decisions to respect our environment.

“Our students deserve clean learning environments, and our communities deserve clean public spaces.”

Mr Kumar said they had planned to roll out additional anti-littering initiatives in the coming months.

“Green waste collection is still underway, and we’ll be moving forward with white goods collection throughout the coming week.

“We kindly ask all members of our community to be mindful when disposing of rubbish.

“Let’s work together to protect our surroundings and keep our community clean and safe for everyone.

“A clean environment is more than just about appearances – it helps reduce the spread of disease and keeps our families healthy. It protects our rivers, oceans, and marine life from pollution.

“It creates a more beautiful and welcoming community for all, and it encourages pride and responsibility in our neighbourhoods. Most importantly, it supports sustainable living for future generations.”

He said their cleanup efforts would continue ward by ward, ensuring that every part of our community received the same care and attention.

“Together, we can build a cleaner, greener community and beyond. Let’s do our part – every small action counts.”
